- This Blog researches and reports on serious issues with social security and new “welfare reforms” affecting beneficiaries in New Zealand. The primary focus is on persons with health issues, injuries and disability, and how they are increasingly affected by draconian, unfair policies, questionable processes, ever changing assessment criteria and other measures the Ministry of Social Development and their main department Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ) now imposes on them. ‘nzsocialjusticeblog2013’ does not so much focus on presenting individual stories of affected persons, but takes a more general, wider view of things. Nevertheless, we are happy to present some useful individual cases, where they have a meaning and relevance to the wider range of persons who may be affected by the same policies and processes. We endeavour to reveal facts behind policies, developments and practices, that are not widely known and not usually covered by media and other sources. While there appears to have been a bit of a back-down in its approach by Work and Income NZ, we never rest, as we do not trust what governments and their agencies actually do, certainly not what they do in the medium to longer term.
